Benefits of Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Extra virgin olive oil has many beneficial qualities because it is very rich in nutrients such as monounsaturated fatty acids, which help keep LDL cholesterol levels under control (the so-called "bad" cholesterol). It is also rich in phenols, antioxidant substances that help prevent cellular ageing, and contains oleic acid, which promotes the release of bile acids and consequently supports faster digestion.
Recent studies have shown that it is good for the heart (reducing the risk of thrombosis, stroke and neoplasms), helps reduce blood sugar spikes and contains a molecule called oleocanthal that appears to have anti-inflammatory effects.
Experts recommend consuming an average of 10-20 grams per day with meals, preferably using the oil raw.
